When flying with children make sure you've check what your airline's policy is for seating - whether they have special seats, if anything can be booked in advance etc.
Bulkhead seats in the plane are normally kept for families with small children and babies. These can be found at the front of the cabin sections. You need to check how these are allocated as some are bookable, others are allocated at check-in so you need to arrive early. |

For a nice easy check-in, with plenty of time to spare then think carefully about when you need to leave home. Think about how quickly it takes to load your family into the car normally, now consider that you'll have several suitcases too. And that last minute panic about where the passports are!
Work out what time you need to check-in and how long you'll need to get parked. Then leave at least 30 minutes earlier. Plan for road works and delays, and even diversion by having a map in the car.
If travelling by car read the following section on parking at London City Airport.

We cannot stress enough the need, if travelling by car to London City Airport, to pre-book your airport car parking.
The best parking option when travelling with children is booking a meet and greet parking service that's extremely well priced and hugely convenient. You don't have to find a remote car park and then get your family on and off of a bus. You don't have to dodge the rain or worry about travelling in the middle of the night. Instead just drive straight up to the airport terminal and leave your car in the hands of the meet and greet Rep, who takes it off to a secure car park. Then, on your return you come out of the airport - no hanging around for that transfer bus - and there your car is, ready and waiting with the Rep. Easy-peasy!
Another top tip when flying with children from London City Airport is when at check-in ask about if there are any empty seats (if you haven't been lucky enough to get a bulkhead seat). This way you and your family can use the extra seats to spread out and it can help the children get some sleep by stretching out.
Once at the boarding gate families are always asked to board first. Do so as this is handy when travelling with children as you can have extra time to settle yourselves. |

Buy Safe Water & Baby Foods Abroad
Read this helpful guide on how and where you can find and buy baby foods, including formula milk and nappies when overseas. And be sure to take note of the advice given on the safe drinking water to give your baby or toddler. Make room in your baggage when packing to include a supply of formula, baby food, nappies and wipes. This way, when you first arrive at your destination you can get settled before having to rushing out in a blind panic trying to find nappies and food.
Babies - safe drinking water
Delicate baby tummies will get upset if you give your baby tap water when overseas. Only give your child bottled water for drinking and as part of their milk. For making up formula only use bottled water, boiling it first as you would back in the UK. When buying bottled water it’s very important to check that the water brand you are buying contains less than 30 Na of sodium. If you’re travelling to Spain many of their pharmacies sell specially distilled water for babies.
Formula Milk
Formula milk's readily available in Europe but you do need to go to a pharmacy to purchase it. Similar brands sold in the UK are available but carry a different name, in Spain Cow & Gate, for instance, is called Almiron. For more unofficial information about buying your particular brand of milk overseas you should call the telephone advice line on the pack of your milk packet.
Buying Jarred Baby Foods
Anyone travelling to Europe will find it easy buying baby food in jars. Hero is a very available baby food in Spain and across Europe. Hipp is also readily available as are products from Nestle. Local supermarkets, although if you are somewhere remote then try a larger main supermarket, should all stock a good selection of baby foods and snacks. As will most pharmacies.
Buying Nappies
Buying nappies abroad is very easy. Just try any local supermarket where both main brands such as Huggies and Pampers are readily available. It’s important to note that in many European Countries cotton nappies are very rare, particularly in Spain, so if you normally use re-useable nappies then you may need to consider using disposables whilst you are away.
