Online World Time Clock ...
To find the local and current World time, for the Country you are travelling to just select the destination from the drop down box.
Nearly one hundred and thirty years ago each city in the world set its own time to noon which was when sun was at its highest in the sky above each city.
So, for instance, in New York it would be 6:00PM yet 6:12PM in Boston , even though Boston is just 3 degrees east of New York.
This system was working fine, but then modern transportation became very popular and this way of setting the time meant it was inefficient for efficient travel and communications.
So Sir Sandford Fleming, a Canadian railway planner, first thought about introducing time zones in the late 1870s.
The popular idea became International in 1884, when delegates at an International conference in Washington, D.C. divided the World into 24 time zones, each one a long strip from North Pole to South Pole, about 15 degrees of longitude wide and about one hour difference in time.
Even today this time zones system of telling the World's time is still in place.
